The San Marino Jinja is a memorial dedicated to the victims of the Great T\u014dhoku Earthquake of March 11, 2011, which struck Japan and claimed thousands of lives. It is the first Shinto-style monument built in Europe and represents a symbol of friendship and peace between San Marino and Japan. <\/p>

Shinto is not generally defined as a religion in the Western sense of the term, as it has no founder, formal dogma or codified sacred texts. Rather, it is a philosophy and spiritual tradition that originated in Japan more than 2,600 years ago, based on respect for and reverence of the natural world: the sun, water, wind, mountains, trees and all forms of life. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Among the hills of Mount Titano, at Podere Lesignano in Serravalle, lies a unique place in Europe: the San Marino Jinja, a sanctuary inspired by the Japanese Shinto tradition.<\/p>

The journey to the sanctuary begins by passing through the Torii, the traditional Japanese gate that marks the entrance to the sacred area and a space for spiritual reflection. From here, surrounded by the tranquility of nature and overlooking the small lake, visitors enter a setting of harmony and contemplation. <\/p>

Shinto, an ancient Japanese philosophy, recognizes nature as the highest expression of the sacred: trees, water, wind and mountains become symbols of harmony and balance between people and the environment.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

In the silence of the San Marino Jinja, the rustling of leaves, the sound of water and the gentle sounds of nature guide visitors into a space of peace and reflection.<\/p>

Along the path, visitors encounter the Temizuya, the traditional purification fountain where, according to Japanese custom, they symbolically purify themselves by washing their hands and mouth before approaching the sanctuary.<\/p>

Surrounded by vineyards, olive trees and the small lake, the Jinja invites visitors to pause for reflection and connect with the deepest aspects of nature and themselves. It is a place open to everyone, regardless of religious beliefs, where respect, silence and harmony become a shared experience. <\/p>
